How to convert MKV to DVD free

Download and run
Freemake MKV to DVD Converter

Download the software here. Find it on your PC and double-click to run. Choose in what language you want to use the freeware. By default, it takes the language on your Windows system.

Then you will be asked if you want to send anonymous usage statistics to help developers make their products better. Don’t worry – the tool doesn’t collect any personal data, only Freemake reports!

Follow the installation steps by clicking the “Next” button all the time. At the end of the process, the software will ask you whether you want to launch it. Select this option in case you want to start working right away.

Add videos for transcoding

Select the .mkv movies to put onto a DVD. Click File -> Video and add them. You can also simply drag-n-drop the visuals into the tool. You may add clips of any length or quality.

Please make sure your clips are not protected or corrupted. Play them on your PC beforehand. If you don’t know how to do, learn how to play MKV files here.

In case you want to burn several MKV films, add them all at once. Please note that the tool doesn’t let add movies o already converted disc.

Choose “to DVD” format

Find a green bubble with “to DVD”. If your media has various subtitles and voice tracks, keep the necessary one for each file. You might also add a completely different audio line for a movie.

When you finish, pay attention to the bottom of the freeware. Click on the "to DVD" button to open the settings.

Prepare your blank disc. You can use any disc type. However, we recommend choosing a rewritable disc (RW).

Set your disc specs

Set DVD parameters. In a window with disc settings, select a color encoding system that you need. NTSC is used in North America, Japan, and some other nations. PAL is widely used in European countries.

If necessary, choose a film menu. Click "No menu" in the top right corner and select the menu type. Click OK to apply it.

Burn MKV to DVD

Insert your blank disc into a PC burner when everything is ready. You can use click the “Burn” button to launch the conversion process. It may take some time depending on your laptop capacity.

As soon as the disc is ready, the free DVD burner for Windows 10 will automatically reject and offer to write a copy of the project. If you need it, just insert another blank disc. You don’t need to set up anything again. The software will create a copy based on previous settings.

  • In case you don’t have a blank disc, you can save your films as an ISO file or a VIDEO_TS folder. To do it, click the “to DVD” option and the click on the drop-down menu. Select if you want to keep the project as ISO or save it as a folder. Select a destination path for your file and click the “Convert” button. Later you can burn the files with Imgburn or Nero. Alternatively, you can convert MKV to AVI to keep on your PC or watch on TV.
  • Freemake app allows users to add online MKVs for burning. Find a film on YT and copy its link. After that, run the utility and click the “Paste URL” button to add the clip. Then follow the regular converting procedure to send a video for offline viewing.
  • You can add a custom background for your discs. When choosing a menu, click on the style you like and mark the “Add custom background” option. Choose a pic from your hard drive. Please note that it should have good quality to look smooth. For example, it can be your photo or a promo image to fit your movie.
